The Future of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Discussed at Workshop Attended by Participants from 21 Countries

Concurrently with the 3rd Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM) Congress, an international workshop was held for the first time in Turkey under the theme “The Past, Present, and Future of Traditional and Complementary Medicine Practices.” Representatives from 21 countries participated in the workshop.

The workshop was attended in person by Dr. Tasnim Atatrah, WHO Representative in Turkey, while Dr. Kim Sungchol, Head of the WHO Traditional and Complementary Medicine Department, participated online and shared the WHO's new GETAT strategy for 2025-2034 with the participants. In addition, Prof. Dr. George Seifert, President of the European Society for Integrative Medicine, representing the European region, attended the workshop in person.

Countries participating in the workshop in person included Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Egypt, Iran, China, Russia, Cuba, Spain, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Germany, Albania, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, and Azerbaijan. Japan participated in the event online.

The two-day intensive workshop, attended by a total of 36 international representatives, examined best practices between countries, regulatory frameworks, and opportunities for international cooperation.

Following the workshop, the international delegation visited the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Application Center at Bursa High Specialization Training and Research Hospital. After the technical tour, participants were also given a city tour covering Bursa's historical and cultural sites.
